Your 40 hour training course for the Part Three Test must be undertaken in the 6 months before the starting date of your Trainee Licence. Once you have achieved your Trainee Licence, the further 20 hour training course that is required by law must be completed within the next 10 weeks.
In the unlikely event that you are not successful in your Part 3 Test to become a Driving Instructor you will be able to resit this part of the tests but there are certain rules and regulations that have to be followed.
Failure in the Part 3 Test will result in the candidate having to undertake an extra 5 hours of tuition before re-sitting this part of the qualifying tests. A training record to that effect must be produced on demand.
When booking a training course for motor vehicle tuition it is important to have knowledge of the Road Traffic Act. The basic rules of the Road Traffic Act are fully explained to you by your local Personal Trainer.
The Part 3 Instructor Test is a test of the candidates skills, knowledge and ability to instruct a novice or partly trained pupil, a pupil who is about Test standard or a qualified driver undertaking development training. The object of this Test is to assess the quality of your instruction and your ability to pass your knowledge on to pupils. The Test is in two parts, each of which lasts about half an hour. You must pass both parts on the same Test
The Tests are split into two parts in which the Examiner will take on the role of a Phase 1 and a Phase 2 pupil.
Phase 1 pupils are either Beginners or Part Trained, either they have not driven a car before or they are taking lessons and working through a set training programme.
Phase 2 pupils are deemed to be trained, having completed their Training Programme and are ready to take the DSA Driving Test. Alternatively a Phase 2 pupil may have just failed the Driving Test or passed the Driving Test and is now taking a Pass Plus Course.
The Examiner will explain before each part of the Test which type of pupil he will be simulating and the Pre-Set Test selected.
All scenarios, both Phase 1 & 2 and all Pre-set Tests, will be fully covered during the Part 3 Training Course which is conducted in the car and on the road.
The ten basic scenarios used on the Test fall under the heading of PSTs (Pre Set Tests)
Your training will cover these 10 PSTs in ten four hour sessions, all in the car. PST 1 commences with the novice driver and the training follows through in a logical sequence building up your knowledge and instructional skills.
Full terms and conditions are available in writing from your Training Instructor
The scenarios cover the following topics
