Become a Driving Instructor - Part One Theory Test

Theory and Hazard Perception Test

The Part 1 Test is made up of 2 sections – a Theory Test with multiple choice questions and the Hazard Perception Test. They demand true understanding of the Highway Code and Driving Law. Taking this Test is the first step to becoming a Qualified Driving Instructor.

THE MULTIPLE CHOICE TEST

Freetrain has a Copyright Licence with the Driving Standards Agency which means we are in a position to supply you with both sample questions and answers.

To assist in your knowledge and understanding of the subject matter we also supply a short but in depth analysis of each of the questions which has been compiled by Don Giles. Don is a former Supervising Examiner ADI who is our expert in all aspects of the training undertaken for the three Qualifying Tests.

If the theory questions asked and answers given are not fully understood or appreciated, the inclusion of the “Why Pack” will help clear up any misunderstanding or confusion that may exist. This Pack provides clear explanations which give a more rounded and informed approach enabling a candidate to work out the answer rather than rely on memory alone.

THE HAZARD PERCEPTION TEST

The Hazard Perception Test is the second element in the Part 1 Test. This Test is taken along with the multiple choice theory questions and makes up Part 1 of your training to become a Qualified Driving Instructor.

The training for the Hazard Perception Test will prepare you to identify hazards in video clips each with a duration of about one minute. The clips feature various types of hazards such as vehicles, pedestrians and road conditions. Full Training on Hazard Perception is given on the Driving Instructors Training Course.
